Disney Confirm Disneyland In Shanghai

The Walt Disney Company has confirmed it has struck a deal to open a Disneyland theme park in the Chinese city of Shanghai.

In a joint venture with local companies, Disney plans to construct and operate a park which is expected to cover the same area as almost 960 football pitches.  Disney issued a statement confirming its interaction with Shanghai authorities saying that they “have taken another step forward in the approval process.”  The Chinese cabinet first approved the project in November 2009, paving the way for the latest agreement.  Various government departments still have to approve the plans, but it is expected that the park will be completed by 2014.
